Job Title: Seasonal Oyster Farm Dockhand
Time Commitment: 25-30 Hours per week. 3 workdays a week that will be the same weekly.
Barrier Island Oyster Co. (BIO) is a restorative off-bottom oyster farm that hand raises and distributes premium single oysters in Charleston, SC.
BIO is seeking to hire a seasonal oyster farm dockhand immediately for the 2019 growing season with the opportunity to come back and grow with the company. Dockhands will learn the ins and outs of building, operating, and promoting a unique oyster farm in Charleston, while working alongside our Farm Manager, Head of Sales, and Head of Operations.
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
Planting seed oysters and grading them until they reach market size,
Maintaining farm equipment, including boats, trucks, tools, and culture gear,
Installing, rotating, and drying culture gear on the lease, and
Processing and packaging oysters for sale
In addition, there will be opportunities to assist and learn about building the company’s brand and to engage with members of the public during special events.

Previous aquaculture, commercial fishing, or other marine (boating) experience is preferred
Passion for aquaculture and local food production
Personal transportation and valid drivers license required
Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Able to work in adverse weather conditions and maintain a positive attitude
Able to work independently and as a part of a team
Flexible and able to adapt to any situation
SCUBA certification is a plus
