BIO's dockhand extraordinaire, Alison Pierce was basically born into oyster farming.

Alison grew up in Maine, where her hometown has been at the forefront of oyster mariculture for over 30 years. Life has taken her many places since leaving the shores of the Damariscotta River, not knowing a passion for aquaculture would ignite here in South Carolina where shellfish aquaculture is just taking root.

Following the completion of her masters degree in environmental health science, Alison began a career in sustainable agriculture. She spent four years with GrowFood Carolina, a Charleston food hub focused on growing a stronger local farming economy and creating farm jobs.

While her official title is Dock Hand, we quickly leaned of the work ethic ingrained in her and knew that Alison is instead a #Dockstar. She embraces any challenge and brings a positive and calming demeanor to our dock, that, like the tide, lift all boats. We are humbled to have her as a member of the team. There is just one chance to catch a shooting star and we are glad this one landed with BIO.

In Alison's spare time she enjoys long walks on the beach with her new family, or traveling to far-off places.
